Terms of Service

Welcome to plan/ria. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the plan/ria platform, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
plan/ria is operated by plan/ria UK Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”), a company registered in England and Wales (Company Number: 17054288) with our registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ.
2. Definitions
- Account means your individual plan/ria account.
- Relationship means a connection between two or more Account holders who have agreed to safely share financial information.
- Partner means another Account holder with whom you have established a Relationship.
- Open Banking means the regulated framework allowing third-party providers to access banking data with user consent.
- Personal Data has the meaning given in the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
3. Eligibility and Account Registration
3.1. Eligibility To use plan/ria, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of registration.
- Be a resident of the United Kingdom.
- Have a valid email address that you have access to.
- Have the legal capacity to enter into binding contracts.
- Provide accurate and complete information during registration.
3.2. Account Creation
You create your Account using passwordless sign-in (magic link or one-time passcode sent to your email), provided by Better Auth. Transactional sign-in emails are sent via Resend. By registering, you:
- Agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information
- Agree to maintain and update your information to keep it accurate, current, and complete
- Are responsible for maintaining access to your email account and any sign-in links or codes we send you
- Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your Account
3.3. Account Security
You must:
- Keep sign-in links and one-time codes confidential and use them promptly
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your Account
- Not share your Account with others
- Use an email account that only you control
4. Description of services
4.1. Core Features
plan/ria provides:
- Open Banking integration to view connected bank accounts
- Expense and bill tracking
- Fair-split algorithms (equal amounts, equal percentages, income-proportional)
- Progressive transparency controls
- Shared savings goals
- Relationship stage profiles
- Premium features (subject to subscription)
4.2. Relationship Features
By creating a Relationship with a Partner, you:
- Voluntarily share certain financial information based on your privacy settings
- Can adjust transparency levels at any time
- Acknowledge that shared information is visible to your Partner according to the settings you choose
4.3. Service Evolution
We operate a phased regulatory approach:
- Phase 1: Open Banking aggregation (current)
- Phase 2: Small EMI (Electronic Money Institution) Registration
- Phase 3: Full EMI Authorisation
Features and capabilities may expand as we obtain additional regulatory approvals.
5. Open Banking and Third-Party Services
5.1. Plaid Integration
We use Plaid Technology Ltd, an Account Information Service Provider authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), to connect your bank accounts. By connecting your bank account:
- You authorise Plaid to access your account information on our behalf
- You consent to us receiving and processing this data
- You understand that we have no control over your bank’s availability
5.2. Authentication and email
We use Better Auth for secure authentication and session management, and Resend to deliver sign-in, verification, and service emails. By creating an Account:
- You understand that your email address and session data are processed to operate your Account
- You consent to receiving transactional emails required to use the Service
- You may review Resend’s policies at resend.com/legal
5.3. Polar.sh Payments
We use Polar.sh for secure payments. By making a payment:
- You agree to Polar.sh’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
- You understand that certain personal payment data is processed by Polar.sh
- You consent to the use of Polar.sh’s payment services
5.4. Hosting and infrastructure
We host the Service on Vercel and store application data in PostgreSQL databases (including serverless providers such as Neon where applicable). By using our Service:
- You understand that your data is processed on infrastructure operated by these providers
- You agree to Vercel’s Terms and Privacy Policy where they apply to infrastructure they provide
5.5. AI features
We use OpenAI to generate certain in-product suggestions (for example, relationship milestone ideas). We send only the information needed for each feature; we do not sell your data to OpenAI. AI outputs are automated and should not be treated as financial advice.
5.6. Analytics and product improvement
We use analytics and session tools to understand how the Service and our marketing site are used, including Vercel Web Analytics, Vercel Speed Insights, Umami on this website, Microsoft Clarity on the application, and Google Tag Manager. Additional tags may be loaded through Google Tag Manager. These tools may use cookies or similar technologies; see our Privacy Policy for more detail.
5.7. Other third-party services
We may integrate additional third-party services. We will notify you of material changes to our third-party providers.
6. Data Protection and Privacy
6.1. Data Controller
We are the data controller for Personal Data processed through plan/ria. Our privacy practices are detailed in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. You may visit our Privacy Policy to learn more.
6.2. Your Data Rights
Under the United Kingdom’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:
- Access your Personal Data
- Rectify inaccurate Personal Data
- Erase your Personal Data
- Restrict processing of your Personal Data
- Data portability
- Object to processing
- Withdraw consent at any time
6.3. Data Residency
Your data is stored on servers located in the United Kingdom to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations of the United Kingdom that regulate data protection and data privacy.
6.4. Data Sharing
When you establish a Relationship with a Partner:
- You control what financial information is visible to your Partner
- Your Partner controls what information is visible to you
- Either party may adjust privacy settings at any time
- Ending a Relationship does not automatically delete previously shared data from your Partner’s view history
7. Subscription and Payment Terms
7.1. Free Tier
Basic plan/ria features are available at no charge.
7.2. Premium Subscription
Premium features require a paid subscription at £4.99 per month per couple (subject to change with notice). Premium subscription include:
- Unlimited savings goals
- Advanced automation features
- More enhanced fair-split algorithms
- More relationship management features
- Enhanced insights and analytics on expenses and shared bills
- Priority customer support

7.3. Billing
- Subscription automatically renew at the end of the current period, i.e. monthly or yearly, depending on your hired pricing plan
- Payment is charged at the beginning of each billing cycle
- We use third-party payment processors
- You must provide valid payment information
- Failed payments may result in service interruption
7.4. Cancellation and Refunds
- You may cancel your subscription at any time
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
- We do not provide refunds for partial months
- Upon cancellation, you retain access to free tier features
7.5. Price Changes
We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days’ notice. Continued use after price changes constitutes acceptance of the new price.
8. Interchange Fees
If you use a plan/ria-issued payment card (when available), we may earn interchange fees on transactions. This does not affect the amount you pay but help us provide the Service.
9. User Conduct
9.1. Acceptance Use
You agree to:
- Use the Service for lawful purposes only
- Provide accurate financial information
- Respect your Partner’s privacy settings
- Not attempt to access others’ Accounts
- Not reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code
- Not use automated systems to access the Service
- Not interfere with the Service’s operation
9.2. Prohibited activities
You must not:
- Use the Service for money laundering of fraud
- Provide false information
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
- Harass, abuse, or harm others
- Impersonate others
- Upload malicious code or viruses
9.3. Consequences of Violation
Violation of these Terms may result in:
- Warning or notice
- Temporary suspension
- Permanent termination of your Account
- Legal action
- Reporting to relevant authorities
10. Relationship Management
10.1. Creating a Relationship
- Both parties must consent to establish a Relationship
- Either party may end a Relationship at any time
- Ending a Relationship does not delete your individual Account
10.2. Shared Information
- You are responsible for choosing appropriate privacy settings
- Shared financial information should be accurate
- We are not responsible for disputes between Partners
- We do not mediate financial arrangements between Partners
10.3. Financial Splits
- Split calculations are provided as a convenience
- You are responsible for actual payment arrangements
- We do not facilitate money transfers between Partners (in Phase 1)
- Fair-split suggestions are not financial advice
11. Intellectual Property
11.1. Our Rights
All rights, title, and interest in the Service, including:
- Software and code
- Design and user interface
- Trademarks and branding
- Content and materials
- Algorithms and methodologies
remain our exclusive property.
11.2. Limited License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
11.3. User Content
Your retain ownership of any data input. By using the Service, you grant us a license to process this data solely to provide the Service.
12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
12.1. Service Availability
- The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service or Service.
- We may suspend service for maintenance or updates.
- We are not responsible for third-party service outages (banks, Plaid, Better Auth, Resend, Polar, Vercel, OpenAI, etc.)
12.2 Financial Decisions
- plan/ria is a financial management tool, not a financial adviser
- We do not provide financial, legal, or tax advice
- Split suggestions and calculations are for informational purposes
- You are solely responsible for your financial decisions
12.3. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
- We are not liable for losses caused by your breach of these Terms
- We are not liable for unauthorised access resulting from your failure to secure your Account
12.4. Exclusions
Nothing in these Terms exclude liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud of fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable laws and regulations in the United Kingdom
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your breach of these Terms
- Your violation of any law or regulations
- Your violation of rights of others
- Your use of the Service
14. Term and Termination
14.1. Term
These Terms commence when you create an Account and continue until terminated.
14.2. Termination by You
You may terminate your Account at any time through account settings or by contacting us at support@planria.co.uk, or by clicking the “Delete Account” button in the account settings.
14.3. Termination by Us
We may terminate or suspend your Account:
- For breach of these Terms
- For fraudulent or illegal activity
- If required by law or regulation
- At our discretion with reasonable notice
14.4. Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- You access to the Service ceases immediately
- We may delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and legal obligations
- Outstanding payment obligations survive termination
- Provisions that by their nature should survive will continue (e.g. limitation of liability, indemnification, etc.)
15. Modifications to Terms
15.1. Changes
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Email notification to your registered email address
- In-app notification
- Posting updated Terms with a new “Last Updated” date
15.2. Acceptance
Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modifications. If you disagree with changes, you must stop using the Service and terminate your Account.
16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
16.1. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
16.2. Jurisdiction
The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms.
17. General Provisions
17.1. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us.
17.2. Severability
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
17.3. Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
17.4. Assignment
You may not assign these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations to an acquirer or successor.
17.5. Force Majeure
We are not liable for failure to perform due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
17.6. Notices
Notices to you will be sent to the email address associated with your Account. Notices to us should be sent to support@planria.co.uk.
18. Regulatory Compliance
18.1. FCA Regulation
As we progress through our regulatory phases, we will update these Terms to reflect our authorised status and capabilities.
18.2. Open Banking Compliance
We comply with the Open Banking Standard and UK payment services regulations.
18.3. Anti-Money Laundering (AML)
We may conduct identity verification and monitoring to comply with anti-money laundering regulations.
