Honest questions deserve honest answers
Isn't this just for serious couples?
No. plan/ria is built for all stages—from roommates splitting utilities to married couples with kids. Start wherever you are, upgrade when (and if) you're ready.
What if my partner earns way more/less than me?
Yes—we support income-proportional splitting. You contribute based on what's fair for your situation (e.g. if one earns 60% of household income, they can contribute 60% to shared expenses). No one-size-fits-all rule.
Can they see everything I spend?
Only if you want them to. You set privacy preferences so you decide what's shared and what's not—including keeping gifts or personal spending private.
What if we break up?
Yes—we've built graceful separation into the app. You can settle shared expenses, separate accounts, and move on without drama. We hope you don't need it, but it's there.
Why should I trust you with my financial data?
We use Open Banking (FCA-regulated), bank-level encryption, and your data never leaves the UK. We don't sell your data, ever.
Do I need to switch banks to use plan/ria?
No. plan/ria works alongside your existing bank accounts—Monzo, Revolut, traditional banks, whatever you use. We connect via Open Banking so you can start tracking shared expenses without switching. Build trust through daily use, then we'll earn the right to ask for more later.
Frequently asked questions
How does plan/ria adjust as our relationship grows?
plan/ria automatically adapts to your relationship stage. Start with simple bill splitting as roommates, progress to shared expense tracking as partners, and expand to joint financial goals when ready. Many couples change their financial arrangements within the first few years; plan/ria is designed to grow with you.
How is plan/ria different from other budgeting apps?
plan/ria is designed for relationships, not individuals. Your financial needs change as your relationship evolves; we adapt with sliding-scale financial integration so you can share what matters while keeping personal privacy. We also work alongside your existing bank—no switching required.
Can we set privacy preferences for our finances?
Yes. plan/ria offers progressive transparency controls: you choose exactly what your partner sees, from full visibility to selective sharing. Many couples prefer gradual financial transparency; you can increase what you share as trust deepens.
Is my financial data secure?
Yes. We use bank-level encryption and security protocols and are regulated by the FCA with Open Banking standards—your data is as secure as when you use your regular banking app. You control what you share with your partner, and we never sell your personal information.
How does the bill splitting work?
plan/ria splits expenses by percentage, income ratio, or custom rules you set together. Whether it's rent 50/50 or the higher earner contributing more to groceries, we calculate fair splits and track who owes what—no spreadsheets or awkward conversations.
How do we split expenses fairly when one partner earns more?
plan/ria supports proportional splitting based on income. If one partner earns 60% of household income, they can contribute 60% to shared expenses so both contribute fairly. Income-proportional splitting often reduces financial conflict because contributions match what each person can afford.
Can I keep some finances private?
Yes. Many people in relationships value maintaining some financial independence. You choose what to share—from complete privacy to full transparency. Keep personal purchases private while sharing household expenses, or gradually increase transparency as your relationship and trust deepen.
What happens if we break up?
Yes—plan/ria includes graceful separation tools. You can settle shared expenses, divide joint accounts, and transition back to individual banking while maintaining privacy and reducing conflict. We hope you never need it, but it's there when you do.
Do you offer physical cards?
Yes. You'll each get physical cards that can draw from shared accounts with customisable spending limits. Start with bill-splitting via Open Banking, then upgrade to cards when you're ready.
Do I need to switch banks to use plan/ria?
No. plan/ria works alongside your existing bank accounts—Monzo, Revolut, Starling, traditional banks, whatever you use. We connect via Open Banking so you can start tracking shared expenses without switching. This is the missing layer between separate accounts and joint accounts.
Is plan/ria only available in the UK?
Currently, yes. We're launching first in the UK to focus on local regulations like council tax, ISAs, and property sharing agreements. We plan to expand to other markets based on demand from our early access community.
How much does plan/ria cost?
Start free with bill-splitting features. After launch, we'll have simple, transparent pricing from free for basic features to premium plans from £4.99/month per couple. No hidden fees, no transaction charges. See our full pricing details for more information.
When will plan/ria be available?
We're currently in development and onboarding early access users. Join our waitlist to be among the first to get access and help us build something that actually works for real relationships.
Can I have a plan/ria if I'm single?
Yes. While plan/ria is designed to grow with relationships, you can start using it as a single person. Manage your personal finances and track expenses; when you're ready to share finances with someone, plan/ria will evolve to support your relationship journey.
